Internet Grandma

I’ve been on the Internet a long time. I remember IRC and AOL chatrooms. I was a member of Makeoutclub and the spinoff site Lipstick and Cigarettes (not embarrassing to admit that at all.) I had not one, but several Livejournal accounts. I remember bonzai kitties, John Titor and Geocities. Basically, I’m old… in Internet years, which I assume are measured in cat years.

Online Content

Over my many internet lifetimes, I’ve curated or created content for BuzzFeed, Atlas Obscura, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. To be fair, most of us post to social so I probably shouldn’t include those platforms, but it does make the list look more impressive.

I’ve also written for Yahoo! and Toronto Life.

The good news is, I’ve been paid to write social copy! Some of my agency work has been for Grand Marnier, Mazda Canada, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Air Canada, Walmart, High Liner and Texture/Next Issue. (Click on the picture below to browse samples.)

Print Media

Not only that, but I’ve ghostwritten, edited and proofread, written technical manuals and designed print ads.

I’ve also had a picture book manuscript repped and sent out to US publishers.

It was rejected by everyone.

So, I’m also good at gracefully receiving blows to my ego.

Twitter Friends

In 2010, Megan McChesney and I created a video podcast about Twitter - sharing stories we thought were odd or interesting. It was low in production value but high in moxie, and one of the first Twitter aggregation shows in Canada. We even got a shout-out in Metro.
